With that in mind, be sure to choose an outfit and footwear that you are comfortable in.

Women
A good idea may be a simple shift dress paired with flats, wedges or heels no higher than 2-inches. Expect to have to walk and stand longer than you think you will and choose your footwear appropriately.

Wearing a dress with pockets is also a good idea and a handy place to stash your smartphone for last minute photos and texts to your family in the audience.

Be sure to check the weather ahead of time. Depending on the cut and fit of your graduation gown, it may be easy to tell if you are wearing a collared shirt and a tie. If you hate wearing a tie, you can forgo it for the ceremony but be sure to keep a tie on-hand in your car or with your family if you need to put it on later after the gown comes off.

Take a hint from the ladies and choose your footwear with care. Pick something that looks professional and is comfortable for lots of walking and standing. Keep in mind the weather as well, there is nothing worse than sweating through your entire grad ceremony. Choose light fabrics like linen if it’s going to be a hot day and don’t forget the sunscreen.

<![CDATA[Donning a cap and gown soon for a 2014 graduation?
