\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s almost August and for students heading to college for the first time, that means it\u2019s time to start gearing up and gathering up all of the essentials that you will need to keep you happy, comfortable and productive this school year. If you are living in a dormitory, it\u2019s always a good idea to start planning your checklist now so you don\u2019t leave any important items behind.<\/p>\n
Here are just a few things to add to your list:<\/p>\n
Single cup coffee maker \u2013 Whether you stayed up late cramming for a test or you got stuck with an early morning schedule because you\u2019re a freshman, having a single-cup coffee maker on hand like a Keurig will help you get your morning jolt of caffeine quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n
Sleep mask \u2013 Let\u2019s face it, there are times when you are going to want to sleep and your roommate will be staying up late studying or participating in some other extra-curricular college activity. Be sure to pack a thick, comfortable eye mask to block everything out. While you\u2019re at it, throw in a pair of ear plugs too.<\/p>\n
Vacuum seal storage bags \u2013 Dorm room closets are not typically known for their enormousness, with that in mind, be sure to bring along some vacuum seal storage bags. These babies can hold everything from winter sweaters, to blankets, to extra towels in half the space they would normally take up. They are also great to use when the seasons change and you swap out your wardrobe.<\/p>\n
Shower gear \u2013 Unless you are one of the lucky dorm-dwellers with an en-suite, chances are you\u2019re going to be using communal showers and bathrooms. Be prepared by bringing the essentials: rubber sandals and a shower tote. The reasons, well, you are in college now, we think you\u2019ll figure it out.<\/p>\n
iHome or similar device \u2013 In situations with limited space, like a dorm room, it\u2019s always good to have gear that serves dual purposes. That\u2019s why we recommend bringing along an iHome or similar device that can do triple duty as an alarm clock, phone charger and sound system.<\/p>\n
Laundry Bag- Do yourself a favor and actually spend some time shopping for this item because chances are you, if you don\u2019t, you will regret it. Unlike at your parents\u2019 house where you can throw your dirty laundry into a basket and not have to go far to dump it into the washer, in a dorm, things are different. The main one being you will likely have to lug your clothes somewhere before getting them clean. Upstairs, downstairs, through hallways, into basements\u2026 the places architects have placed washers and dryers might astound you. With that in mind, be sure to get something sturdy with handles that is easy to carry.<\/p>\n
