Facebook Group to Set Guinness World Record?

facebook guinness world record
So we’re not sure if this is real or just a huge marketing hoax, but what do you have to lose?
This facebook group is attempting to break a Guinness World Record. If it is really true, you supposedly receive a certificate for your efforts too! How cool would that be to add to your resume before you graduate. Guinness World Record Holder!

The Perfect Robot for College Students?

Healthy Student Breakfast
via flickr

This article about the Japanese robot, the Twendy-One, was in the Washington Post earlier today. Basically, this robot can do a lot of things, including fetch items from the fridge! Now think about how great this would be for the typical college student…running late for class, or even better yet for a fraternity house!
The downside is that it won’t be available until 2015 and comes with a hefty price tag of about $200,000.

So, until then. Cup of Noodles it is!
It’s amazing what you can find on Youtube nowadays. Here’s a recipe on how to prepare Ramen that actually seems pretty good!

Cheap College Laundry: Tips To Remove Stains

So if I remember correctly, just like the average college student, I did laundry about once every two to three weeks. It was a pain doing it on weekends because of the crowds and doing it on the week nights meant I’d have to block out 2-3 hours out of my time to actually be able to sit down at the dry cleaners and put in load after load, then move it over to the dryer. Unfortunately at our dry cleaners, it wasn’t safe to leave your clothes and go and I think of all the fraternity houses, ours was one of the only ones that did not have a washer/dryer!

So, I thought it might be useful to post a few videos on how to ’save’ clothes.

Here’s a good tip on how to remove ink stains. Brought to us by Philips.

“Graduation” The Movie

Have you ever heard about this film called Graduation? According to IMDB, Graduation (2006) was directed by Michael Mayer and released in 2006.

It looks like an interesting story line and definitely a change from the American Pie Series. In Graduation, three good friends, on the day of their graduation attempt to rob a bank. The twist is that the father of one of the friends owns the bank.

I wonder why we never heard about this film. Did it even make it to the theatres? Unfortunately after a search on Google and Amazon, we couldn’t find much more information about the film.

Here’s a trailer from YouTube.

Black Friday + College Students = Best Holiday Ever

Black Friday
After looking at all the holidays of the year, I figure Black Friday is the most underrated yet spectacular of holidays for any college student. Here are a few reasons why I believe so.

  1. It’s a 4-day weekend! That’s just about as long as a standard school week, and when you return you only have 1-2 weeks before a long winter break.
  2. 6. You are still full from Thanksgiving dinner and all the alcohol you drank. Even better is that you didn’t have to pay for it!
  3. Free laundry at home. Clean clothes are awesome.
  4. Your stamina, health and determination for a good deal make standing in line at Best Buy and Circuit City at 4AM possible.
  5. Free laundry at home. Yes, clean clothes deserves a 2nd shout-out.
  6. You get to bring left overs back to school with you!
  7. Chillin’ with the family.

The College Effort, Students & Darfur

The conflict in Darfur has been going on since 2003. Without question it has provoked countless rights protests, fundraisers, and much more activism among students across the nation.

There are students in Detroit running for the cause, students at USC who created a film about the cause, and not to mention over 3,000 Darfur videos on YouTube that shed light about the issue.
But what does this really all mean, and did the creator of the For Every 1,000 that join this group I will donate $1 to Darfur really pay up?

It’s hard to know and nearly impossible to quantify everyone’s efforts because they are so scattered and massive. Our challenge to seniors is if you haven’t already aligned with a worthy cause, now’s the time! Don’t just join the facebook group and pretend, really get involved somehow and make a difference before you graduate.

The New Craze Around Campus: Cowbell Hero

Students playing video games

Video games and college life never really mixed well. It was a cool thing to do in high school and afterschool with your buddies, but if you still played a lot of video games in college, people often classified you as a nerd or socially inept. Playing Counter-Strike, WOW & DDR were not necessarily the coolest ways to spend your Friday evenings, but who is really to judge if playing these or partying is better?

So much has changed in the last few years and most importantly is the appeal of video games to students. With the invention of the Gamecube, the Wii, and most importantly Guitar Hero, it seems games have become more and more acceptable for people of all ages. Four years ago on a typical Friday night you’d expect to see girls partying, but nowadays it is nothing less than common to see a group of attractive girls rocking out on Guitar Hero Expert Mode and totally beating the male challenger standing besides them.

Guitar Hero has hit college campuses nationwide and gives almost any college student who has had any aspirations of becoming a rock star the ability to live up to his dream!

Now one problem with Guitar Hero and college? It’s a difficult game to play after you’ve drank a few beers.

Now the game makers have noted this and check out the newest release, Cowbell Hero. A sure fire hit coming to a college campus near you!

Top 10 Inspirational Fraternity & Sorority Mottos

sayings in a book
Every house has a different motto that they live by. For some, individual chapters even have their own specific sayings. These mottos make a huge impact on Greeks during their active years and often carry into their lives far beyond college. While many sayings are kept secret from the outside word, of those we found on the good ol’ Wikipedia, we’d like to share with you the 10 Greek mottos we found to be most unique and inspiring.

Without further ado, and in no particular order, our favorite 10 are:

Pi Lambda Phi — Not four years, but a lifetime
Iota Phi Theta
& Iota Phi Theta — Building a Tradition, Not Resting Upon One
Sigma Lambda Gamma — Culture is Pride, Pride is Success
Alpha Sigma Alpha — Aspire, Seek, Attain
Alpha Kappa Alpha — By Culture and By Merit
Beta Chi Theta — Above All Else, Brotherhood
Gamma Omega Delta — Building our Future by Reclaiming our Past
Epsilon Sigma Phi — What we want most to be, we are.
Sigma Kappa Tau — Individually Unique, Together Complete
Delta Lambda Chi — Reach for the stars, but remain down to earth.

Happy Veteran’s Day

Veteran's Day

via flickr

Happy Veteran’s Day to all the Veterans and families and friends of Veterans! Today also marks the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam Memorial.

I think a big misconception that many students still hold is that veterans are just grandpas and older folks. While this may have been true in the past, the stereotype does not hold true in today’s world.  Today, many brave men and women from different ages and ethnic backgrounds fight for our freedoms.  Some joined pre-college, some post-college, and some got their beginnings from ROTC programs.

Our hats go off to all these individuals.
